Netflix downloads are stored as app-managed data on the device that downloaded them, not as ordinary video files you can move between devices. The key point is that the Netflix download location depends on your device, and finding an internal storage path does not turn an official Netflix download into a portable MP4 or MKV file.

Netflix currently supports downloads on Android phones and tablets, iPhone and iPad, Amazon Fire tablets, and compatible Chromebooks. Windows and Mac are not on the current supported-download list. Why Netflix Files Aren't Normal Video Files

That means finding Netflix app data does not give you a clean file such as Stranger Things.mp4. The Netflix app still manages the downloaded video, audio, subtitles, account authorization, and playback state.

These downloaded videos are managed through Digital Rights Management (DRM) and Netflix's own app data. Copying the underlying app folders to another device does not create a portable or independently playable Netflix download.

Netflix Download Location on Android

Netflix downloads use storage on the Android phone or tablet where they were downloaded. The practical way to find, manage, or delete them is through the Netflix app rather than through the Android file system.

Higher download quality uses more storage. If your goal is simply to free space, open Netflix and remove downloaded titles from the Downloads area. Official downloads remain tied to the device and do not sync or transfer as ordinary video files.

Default Path in Android Internal Storage

Starting with Android 11, Android introduced stronger scoped-storage restrictions that prevent ordinary apps and standard file-access flows from freely browsing another app's Android/data directory. On current devices, a standard file manager may show the folder as empty or block access entirely.

Older guides commonly reference Netflix data under Android/data/com.netflix.mediaclient/, including a path such as Internal Storage/Android/data/com.netflix.mediaclient/files/Download/offline. Netflix does not document this as a supported user-facing download location, however, and the internal folder structure can change with the app or operating system.

Even when app data can be inspected through a computer or specialized system access, it is not a supported method for extracting playable Netflix videos. For current storage management, use Netflix's own Downloads and Download Location controls.

Change the Download Location to an SD Card

On an Android phone or tablet with a compatible installed SD card, Netflix can store future downloads on external storage. Change the location inside the Netflix app rather than moving existing app-data folders manually:

New titles will use the selected storage location while the SD card remains installed and available to Netflix.

Official downloads on either internal storage or an SD card remain managed by Netflix and can only be played through the Netflix app. Copying Netflix app-data folders to another device does not transfer a playable download.

When the SD Card Option Is Missing

If Netflix does not show an SD card under Download Location, first confirm that the Android device recognizes the card, that the card has free space, and that the Netflix app is up to date.

• Open the device's storage settings and confirm that the SD card is detected.
• Open Netflix and check My Netflix > profile name > App Settings > Download Location.
• Restart the device after reinserting or remounting the SD card.
• If Netflix still does not offer the SD card as a Download Location, use the storage locations exposed by the current Netflix app rather than attempting to move its internal data folder manually.

Netflix's storage selector is an in-app setting, so USB debugging, Developer Options, Command Prompt, and ADB commands are not required to change the supported download location. The ADB screenshot below reflects an older workaround rather than the current Netflix procedure.

Current Android storage restrictions can also make community file-manager workarounds unreliable. Use Netflix's own Download Location setting whenever the option is available.

Netflix Download Location on iPhone and iPad

On iOS and iPadOS, Netflix downloads remain inside the app's managed storage. You cannot use the Files app to browse a normal Netflix download folder or retrieve the downloads as standalone video files. The iPhone Netflix download location is therefore best understood as Netflix-managed local app storage rather than a user-accessible folder.

Netflix downloads use local device storage on the iPhone or iPad where they were downloaded. You cannot transfer those official downloads as playable files to another device. To free space, delete downloaded titles from within Netflix itself.

Mac is not on Netflix's current list of devices that support official offline downloads. Users specifically researching how to download Netflix on Mac therefore cannot rely on an iPhone/iPad-style Netflix download folder or an old ~/Library/Containers/ workaround.

iCloud storage does not relocate Netflix downloads because the titles remain stored locally and managed inside the Netflix app. To free space on an iPhone or iPad, delete downloaded titles in Netflix or select a lower download video quality before downloading them again.

Netflix Download Location on Windows PC

There is no current Netflix download folder on Windows 10 or Windows 11 because the current Netflix app for Windows no longer supports offline downloads. Netflix also states that there is no way to return to the discontinued app version that supported downloads. Folder paths shown in older guides therefore apply only to the legacy Windows app.

Why the Legacy Download Folder No Longer Works

Netflix once provided a Windows app with a built-in download button. The screenshots and folder references below describe that discontinued version, not the current Netflix app for Windows.

The legacy app stored downloaded titles as app-managed data rather than ordinary video files. Older instructions began by showing hidden Windows folders, but these steps cannot restore downloads in the current Netflix app.

In the legacy workflow, users opened This PC > Local Disk and selected View > Show > Hidden items to reveal the AppData folder. This setting does not create a Netflix download folder for the current app.

Older versions placed app-managed download data inside a Netflix package folder under AppData. The current Windows app no longer downloads titles, so that legacy path is not an actionable Netflix download location.

Even in the discontinued app, the stored data was designed for playback through Netflix rather than as a normal MP4 or MKV file.

Current Options for Offline Viewing on a Laptop

Windows system storage settings cannot change a Netflix download location because the current Windows app has no download feature. For official laptop offline viewing, Netflix supports downloads on compatible Chromebooks through the Netflix Android app; Windows and Mac are not on the current supported-download list.

These settings applied to the discontinued Netflix app but do not provide a current Windows offline-viewing solution. For travel, the official laptop option is the Netflix app on a compatible Chromebook. For other supported devices, I would use Netflix's official download feature on an Android phone or tablet, iPhone or iPad, Amazon Fire tablet, or compatible Chromebook first.
